Mount Kenya Traverse – A Summit Across the Sky
Step into a world where silence reigns and glaciers whisper ancient stories. This five-day trek is a scenic traverse across the majestic flanks of Mount Kenya—ascending via the lush Naro Moru route and descending through the untamed Sirimon valley. From forested foothills to alpine moonscapes, and finally the summit at Point Lenana, this journey is for those who seek solitude, challenge, and awe in equal measure. Few paths reward with such shifting beauty—and even fewer feel this personal.
Leave the bustle of Nairobi and drive north through Kenya’s fertile farmlands to Naro Moru. After lunch, continue to the Sirimon Gate and drive up to the trailhead at 11,000 ft. Take a gentle acclimatization walk before settling in at Old Moses Camp. The air is crisp, the views endless—your mountain adventure has begun.
Hike deeper into the mountain as you ascend along the Sirimon Track to the secluded Likii North Valley. Nestled beneath the dramatic flanks of Tereri and Sendeyo peaks, your remote campsite offers a raw, otherworldly charm. Tonight, sleep under a sky littered with stars, surrounded by mountain silence.
Today’s trek leads you through one of the most awe-inspiring alpine valleys on the mountain—Mackinder’s Valley. Towering giant groundsels line the route as you climb towards Shipton’s Camp, lying beneath the mighty twin summits of Batian and Nelion. You're now face-to-face with the heart of Mount Kenya.
Rise before the sun for the summit push to Point Lenana (4,985m). The quiet north face leads you upward in a hushed, magical climb. Reach the summit in time for sunrise, when the light sets the ice and sky ablaze. Then descend slowly to Shipton's or Mackinder’s Camp for a much-deserved rest, your soul now marked by the mountain.
Complete your descent through the Sirimon route, taking in final views of the wild mountain scenery before reaching Old Moses Camp and the park gate. From here, transfer back to Nairobi—your legs tired, your spirit soaring, and the summit forever etched in your memory.
