Overview

A Journey from the Realm of Gorillas to the Kingdom of Lions

This unforgettable 5-day safari through southwestern Uganda combines two of the country’s most iconic wildlife experiences. Trek deep into the ancient rainforests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—home to over half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas—and stand face to face with these gentle giants in one of Africa’s most emotional wildlife encounters. Then venture into Queen Elizabeth National Park, where open savannahs, crater lakes, and the legendary tree-climbing lions of Ishasha await.

From misty mountains to sunlit plains, this safari is a stunning contrast of landscapes and species, promising both quiet wonder and thrilling adventure.
Ready to meet Africa’s giants up close? Let’s take you there.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Into the Heart of the Highlands
Your adventure begins early, with a scenic drive southwest through rolling hills and lush farmlands. You’ll pass through Masaka and Mbarara, heading deep into the Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.” As the altitude rises, so does the anticipation. By evening, you’ll arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site cloaked in mystery and home to the mighty mountain gorilla. Settle in at your lodge nestled in the forest, where dinner and rest await.

Day 2: Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Experience

Face to Face with the Forest Giants
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off on your gorilla trek—a soul-stirring journey through ancient jungle trails. The trek can take anywhere between 2 to 9 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. But every step is worth it when you finally lock eyes with a silverback in the wild. Spend up to an hour with the troop, observing their interactions and soaking in one of the most intimate wildlife moments on earth. Return to your lodge for dinner and a well-earned rest.

Day 3: Bwindi – Queen Elizabeth National Park (via Ishasha Sector)

From Misty Forests to Savannah Kings
After breakfast, depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, entering through the famed Ishasha Sector. Keep your camera ready—this is the only place in Uganda where you’re likely to spot tree-climbing lions draped over fig branches. Along the way, watch for Uganda Kobs, monkeys, and herds of buffalo. After lunch and check-in at your lodge, embark on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where elephants, hippos, and birds gather in spectacular numbers. Drift close to the wildlife and take in one of Uganda’s most biodiverse moments.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Predators, Primates & The Pulse of the Wild
Wake early for a sunrise game drive through the Kasenyi Plains, when lions are still on the move and the savannah is at its most active. After breakfast, prepare for a different kind of forest adventure in the afternoon: chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge. This lush, sunken rainforest is home to habituated chimps and a host of other primates—red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, and the charismatic black-and-white colobus. You'll also spot a variety of birds in the canopy as you walk through this ancient jungle trench. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth – Kampala

One Last Look Back
After breakfast, begin the journey back to Kampala, traveling through the Kasese-Fort Portal route, a scenic drive dotted with crater lakes and the backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive in the afternoon in time for your onward flight or overnight stay.
End of safari—but the memories will travel home with you.
